Michael L. Eckert, CSP, CSHM

Mike has over 20 years experience as a safety practitioner and holds both Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Certified Safety Health Manager (CSHM) designations. He currently works as Loss Control Manager for mono line workers’ compensation carrier, overseeing a staff of 25 loss control professionals in 17 states.

Mike’s previous experience includes serving as vice president of risk services for a major Michigan based insurance agency, a safety and health leader for an engineering and scientific consulting firm, loss control consultant for an insurance third party administrator and seven years as the Director of Safety/Educational Services for the Michigan Road Builders Association. He was instrumental in the creation, development and provision of MRBA’s Safety and Educational Services program and co-authored the state’s first ever Partnering Charter with MIOSHA. Recognizing his accomplishments in this role, in 2004 he was named the Michigan Safety Professional of the Year. In 2005 the American Society for Safety Engineers named him Safety Professional of the Year for a Region VII; a six state region.

Mike holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Macomb Community College and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Madonna University. Mike also proudly serves as an on-call Firefighter/EMT with the Hartland Area Fire Authority, where he holds the position of Deputy Chief – Special Projects.  Email Mike at mike.eckert@michigansafetynews.com
